Kah-Nee-Ta Resort & Spa

They have a large hot spring pool down at the "village" open to the public. There's another, more private, but slightly cooler pool up at the lodge open to hotel guests. The rooms are a bit dated, but most rooms have an amazing view and offer easy access to the pool. I bring my family here every year to enjoy the enormous Thanksgiving lunch buffet. The food is delicious and they have pretty much everything. The resort is relatively convenient to Smith Rock state park, John Day Fossil Beds, and the Painted Hills. There's also decent hiking in and around the resort.
We picked this hotel as a destination for our family. A mistake. The wifi was broken the whole time we were there and we were told we had to go to the lobby to get wifi and it still didn't work. The only place to eat during your stay is an overpriced restaurant with very slow service and waiters who forget to bring silverware to your table. The outside of the hotel rooms had big piles of mice droppings in each corner of the corridors. And to top it all off, my bank account was debited two weeks after I stayed there, and according to the front desk reps, their not authorized to make those deductions. However, after two calls and two voice messages to two different managers, I have not received a call back or any effort to return the money that was removed from our bank account in two weeks.
I don't recommend staying at the resort. When we arrived I was told that my reservation had been cancelled the same day it was booked. They didn't know how. Luckily they were able to give us a room. They carpet in the room was AWFUL. Lots and lots of stains EVERYWHERE. There was only one restaurant and it's expensive. Nothing is open at the lodge after 8:30 pm. The elevator was very dirty. The only positive experience was that all of the staff at the restaurant, gift shop, and front desk, were nice and helpful. I will not go back again.
Overpriced dirty pool. Easy get any sickness. Will never come back again.
This resort has the potential to be the place to go for fun in the sun. Unfortunately it is not. The rooms are old, dark and very overpriced. One can hear everything going on outside as if there were no walls at all and the A/C was very noisy and looks like it was installed back in the 70's. There is one way in and out from all the wings. The toilette's paper was scarce and supplies were low. The room has a 25" old fashion TV hidden in the wall that makes it impossible to watch. They have wifi but good if you want to get online. The pool is big, clean and the highlight of the resort. The restaurants are bright and the breakfast buffet is pretty amazing. I was extremely disappointed with the rooms and the lack of staff. With some basic updates and more modern amenities I can see this place being a 5 star resort .
