Azabu

On arrival at Azabu "Guest House" we were met with a vacant reception area with a mobile phone number to call if unattended. We called the number and a young American woman (owner/manager?) coldly greeted us with "You're early. your room's not ready yet!" I looked at my watch and it was 10 minutes to 1pm. Check in time was 1pm. I said "Ok, that's fine…only 10 minutes though?..." She replied “Well, you’’ll have to wait.” I said “No problem” and filled out the form she gave to me. As we were waiting my husband and our friend that had collected us from the airport went over to the central swimming pool to have a look. The women asked “Are they with you?” I explained who “they” were. I also informed her that as it was New Year’s Eve we would be going out for the evening and that another friend would be meeting us at our room prior to catching a taxi out at around 8.30pm. She said “We prefer guests not to have guests” and huffed quite rudely when I said that it was only going to be for 2-3 hours at most. At about 1.10pm we were shown to our room by a nice French (?) girl and were left to settle in. We dropped off our luggage and took the 10 minute drive into Byron to have lunch as there was no dining options other than breakfast at Azabu. On the topic of breakfast, on arrival we were informed that the breakfast we had paid for would only be a “self-serve muesli” option as “New Years Day was a public holiday” We had paid for a full breakfast for both days. After returning to our room to get ready for the evening’s festivities I received a text message telling me that I would receive an ‘overnight guest charge’ if extra guests (2) had not vacated the property by 9pm. This was our plan to begin with. We felt so nervous and unwelcome and found ourselves whispering on the balcony and our friend even commented that he felt like a “naughty boy” or something. IT WAS HORRIBLE! We paid $900 for two nights to be treated like unwelcome visitors. Before 9pm I received another text from management asking if the vehicle we had parked in the driveway was ours and would be staying on the property for the night. When informed that it was (we borrowed our friends car) the reply was “I thought you said you were dropped off”!!! What does it matter – we paid for our room which included a car park! I cannot believe that Azabu management feels that it is acceptable to harass it’s guests like this!! Overall our stay was so awkward and uncomfortable that despite the lovely surroundings I would not recommend this place to anyone. We left feeling shocked, appalled and upset that our romantic long needed and much- deserved getaway had been ruined.
The staff is very friendly and pleasant. The rooms are amazing, very tranquil and relaxing. The 3 course breakfast is extremely tantalizing to the taste buds. Will recommend it to everyone and will definitely return.
Nice peaceful place to stay but it's location is out of town. Really needed some lunch options so you could lounge around all day. Maybe a platter of local produce or some locally made touches.
What an awesome place. Lovley people :) Incrediable scenary, Wanna come back asap!!!
