Utopia Spa & Boutique
Reviews
As one other reviewer mentioned the service and cleanliness are great, however that's where it ends. You get very little considering how much you are paying. Can't recommend this place at all.
My sisters and I made an appointment at Utopia to get our nails done for my sister's wedding. We went the afternoon of the rehearsal for pedicures and shellac manicures. The appointment started off well with an offer of drinks and we enjoyed the comfortable chairs and good pedicures by our three service providers who were friendly and chatty. Unfortunately the shellac manicures were extremely disappointing. The manicure was hardly a manicure at all - there was minimal nail shaping (which was uneven and slanted on some nails) and no work on the cuticles at all. My polish application was right to the cuticle and spilled over off the nail in a few places causing the polish to bubble up and separate from the nail in a few places, pretty disappointing because it cost $102 after tax. The bride chose a french manicure and the results were disastrous - bumpy and bubbly, thick and some white streaks down the pink part of the nail. Her service provider continually asked her if she was happy with it during the service and my sister did voice her concerns, pointing out the bubbles and bumps. The mistakes were not fixed by the end of the service. When it came time to pay she expressed her unhappiness - these were her wedding services after all! The receptionist asked if she'd like to have the service re-done, but we explained (again!) that we were out of time, having been there for 2.5 hours and now having to leave for the rehearsal. Still, the staff continued to suggest that my sister return to have it re-done, not seeming to understand how busy a bride is on the days leading to the wedding. She was given a small discount and offered a free service when she comes back. Unfortunately that left us with a sour taste in our mouths and what should have been an afternoon of fun was stressful and disappointing, so she wont be returning. I understand why they wanted her to return to fix the mistake but I wish they'd been more understanding of the time crunch - and not charged her $85 for a service she was so unhappy with. Brides beware!
I've been attending this spa for a few years. However, like previous posts, I am stunned by the turnover of the staff. I'm sure the reasons are complex, but one thing that I've noticed is that it doesn't tend to be very busy. Other newer spas in Milton have marketed a lot more, and they keep their staff booked, which I'm sure is important to an aesthetician. Recently, my fav girl (Marianne) left and my next shellac manicure was definitely not as good. I'm now switching to one of the new nail spas (there are THREE at Derry and Thompson. Better manicure, 20% cheaper.
I've been seeing Cathy at Utopia Spa for about a year now. I first heard about Cathy from my mother who used to see her when she was working in Mississauga - she always raved about her work. So when she moved to Milton I decided to give her a try. I loved the spa, services, and Cathy from the first time I went. The staff go out of their way to ensure a great experience for the client. I've had many of the services and I've never been disappointed. Cathy also has a great personality and I always enjoy our conversations. Just to tell you what type of person she is - the first day I went to the spa I was stressed out because I couldn't find a good daycare for my son. Cathy went out of her way and helped me get a spot for my son in the most wonderful daycare. This was not necessary, as she didn't even know me but its one of those things that I have always been so grateful for. I am only speaking from my personal experience with this spa, but I would not hesitate to recommend this spa to anyone who is looking to try it out.
Jean from Toronto downtown, I had posted a review and it has seemed to disappear. It gives me great pleasure to write a review as I have been getting my nails done every two weeks by Kathy and yes a very pleasant young lady I have known for the past 18 years. As life brings you surprises well it certainly has brought me a special gift in my life which is Kathy and her spa is a place where I can relax for 2-3 hours getting spoiled with great treatment on my hands and nails, and an awesome pedicure in a magnificent setting. I highly recommend Utopia Spa as it offers you many services in a great relaxing atmosphere.
