Perhaps I've been spoiled by the boutique hotels. Orbitz gave a good price on the air plus hotel, including the Grand Hotel, and I went for it. It's another big old hotel with tour groups. It has the location. If you want to be in the middle of the restaurant and bar scene in Oslo, you couldn't ask for more. The front desk and breakfast restaurant staff were all smiling and helpful. The breakfast spread was good, if you're into the big buffet all-you-can-eat thing. Food quality was good. Free Wifi was better than a lot of other hotels. On the negative side of things, the front desk is perpetually under-staffed. Everyone gets to wait checking in or checking out. I don't know how the front desk person kept smiling. The room... well, the bath area has been renovated and it was clean and functional. But the room itself is past its expiration date. Carpet has been updated. The pillows smelled stale. To their credit, they replaced them when I asked. There is a dirty, smelly chair that should have been put out by the curb in 1997. The room was stuffy and I could not get it to air out to a real comfort level. The exercise room is cramped. Equipment works. Yoga mats have had a hard life. Same vintage as the chair I think. Really, how much could it cost to update those? Overall, if you are into stuffy oldy-worldy hotels, don't mind waiting, want a central location, can tolerate the buffet breakfast, and can put up with the pervasive staleness, you will be OK. If you like a fresh, unique experience, you'll be disappointed. The test – would I do it again? Only if the last option.
Perfect place to experience traditional Norwegian cousine, excellent service and genuine atmosphere. The Christmas menu is one of the best in Oslo
Hidden gem in Oslo.
I reached the hotel on friday at 05:00 PM I was very tired. The first surprise was that the park costs 330 NKR for 10 hours parking. I got my keys and went to my room. Some workers were working with a huge drill machine to 09:00 PM just above my room !! ( we are speeking about 5 stars hotel). I took a quick shower and slept after they finished their work. I waked up at 6:00 AM and believe it or not, there was no warm water !! ( 5 stars hotel !!). I then went down to get my car from the basement but the only door from the hotel to the garage was locked. OK.... One of the workers asked me to wait and he would call the garage employee and after 10 min. waiting nothing happened. I had to go to the reception again and speak with them to get the door unlocked. I paid 1880 NKR for a service that I could got at any motel....
