The Springs Resort & Spa
Reviews
The 18 and older pools were great! Very relaxing. However, the other pools were filled with kids doing canon balls and playing with squirt guns... More like a warm water park than a relaxing spa. Still fun, but not recommended for a romantic getaway.
This place was great for few days. You won't want to be there much longer at a single time due to the minerals in the water. Each pool of water has its own temp that gets displayed and Temps range from 96 to 110 mostly. One 85 and one 87 degree pools for the kids. They read Temps every 3 hours so it's kept accurate. I observed them cleaning few pools and they do it in a timely fashion too. Took about 3 hours depending on the size of pool. Their staff definitely knows what they are doing and take good care of each pool. My hands have been dirty for 3 years due to my line of work. I wash them about 15 times a day but they always stayed dirty. After 2 nights at the springs my wife loves my baby hands. Soft and very clean in all the tiny cracks. We checked in at 11:30 on thanksgiving and got a room right away. The have a juice, tea, coffee and cappuccino bar that's free to fill which helps not having to buy a ton of drink and keep running to your hotel room to get water to drink. Since you will want to drink alot at the springs.
8/2014 I went with my boyfriend having purchased a romance package. The $400 Queen Sabie room was located right between the lobby and entrance to the springs. There was always someone outside the single pane window, which to top off, the blinds didn't even completely close. The Springs were packed till pass midnight and by that time the smell of sulfur was allot like sewage. I still cant get the stink out of my swimsuit. The smell of the whole resort is really pungent. Our massages were also cancelled because no therapist was available (this was my vacation I scheduled 2 months in advance). Nothing about this place was relaxing or enjoyable. I felt it was more of an over priced dirty water park and should be advertised as such. Hotel sooo overpriced!!
I was very disappointed in the hotel. The staff was friendly and it was clean and only moderately comfortable. This would not usually be a big deal except for the cost of the room. At over $200 a night, I expect a lot more. I know it comes with 24 hour access to the pools, but most people don't need or want them after midnight, which is when they kick the non-hotel guests out. For half the price I could have stayed in a room just like it at a different hotel and even after paying to get into the hot springs, I would still have saved at least $40/day. The parking situation was a nightmare. I had to walk quite a long ways from my car to my room because there just wasn't enough parking. Also, cheaper hotels will provide a continental breakfast with muffins and such, The Springs Resort & Spa only had coffee and juice. Again, I would be much more forgiving of this had it not cost so much. The hot springs themselves were nice, but nowhere near as nice as many others I've been to in Colorado. If you are just in the regular pools during the day, there are flocks of children running around with no adult supervision. One child even went into the river, grabbed a fish, and with fish in hand ran up to the pools. I have no idea where the fish ended up, but I'm pretty sure I don't want to know. And in the VIP/adults only area, there were people smoking cigarettes and pot in the pools which really takes away from the relaxing atmosphere. But everything was nice and peaceful between 11pm and midnight. This place wasn't bad, but it wasn't good either. I felt like it was way overpriced for something that I could have gotten elsewhere for half the amount. Nothing about this place made me feel like it was worth the cost. If I ever do find myself back in Pagosa Springs, I will be staying somewhere where the quality and cost match up better.
We were extremely disappointed with the overall service of our stay at The Springs. We went for our wedding anniversary and as we are locals in the Durango area it was quite an expensive treat for us. So, it was upsetting with the way we were treated including the service. I rang the spa on our way to ask about check in. She then told me that check in was at 4pm and check out was at 11am. As it was noon, I mentioned that it's an hour drive and that it would be great to be on a waiting list for an earlier check in so that we could soak and shower in our $280 room instead of the crowded locker room. She was very positive about putting us on a list and hopeful that we would get in early. So when we arrived we were notified that the room wasn't ready but she would call us soon and that we could have a soak in the springs. After a 2 hour soak, no phone call so I had to change in the extremely crowded locker room. There was no room to put my things down; I had to wait 5 minutes for a freezing cold shower next to a screaming child. I have children, but left mine at home in hopes to enjoy a quiet hotel room and soak with my husband on our anniversary. After the freezing shower, still no call. So we walked into town has a snack and got back at 3.45. Our room was still not ready! So we waited the 15 minutes and finally got our room. Although the room was clean, it was set to 85 degrees F. So we had to open all the windows and leave as it was too hot to relax inside. Dinner in town was the only good thing about our stay (and it wasn’t at the Springs!) After dinner we went for a late soak in the ‘adult pool’. After about 5 minutes “Fort Lauderdale, spring break” arrived – with 15 very drunk Texans. This totally ruined our romantic night. I will never stay here again and I’m hesitant to even give them a dime of my money – even though I do love to frequent hot springs. Super expensive, crowded during Christmas Break, I suggest to save your money and stay somewhere else. If you’re desperate to soak go on Tuesday when it’s local’s day (if this applies) and at least a little bit cheaper.
