Ardan's

I look like a skunk. I went back to the same stylist I had seen a few times before. Her attitude was brash and she was always a bit snappy with me, but I liked my hair well enough, so I went back a few times. However, here was my most recent experience at Ardan's: I sat down on the chair, excited to get my done, and said to the stylist that I'd like to go a bit lighter this time. I always get my hair colored within a shade or two of my natural color (nothing drastic) with highlights. She responded: "We can't go lighter." I asked why, and she said that it would leave a line if we dyed my roots a lighter shade. So, I asked, "well, can't we just color all of my hair the lighter shade." This is literally one shade lighter than what was on my hair, not a drastic change. She got frustrated and snapped at me, "you don't understand--color doesn't lift color!". I was a bit confused by this, so I said: "I don't understand. Will I have have to keep getting my hair colored the same color to infinity? You seem to be saying that I can never go lighter. Will you tell me the same thing the next time I come in?". Her response: "SHHH!". She SHHH'ed me, and never answered my questions. I have been getting my hair dyed and highlighted for over 20 years. I know it's possible to take a hair color a shade lighter. Finally, I compromised and suggested that maybe I could just get lots of highlights to lighten my hair. She mixed the dye, and when she came back out she had a scowl on her face and refused to say anything. We sat there in an awkward silence. When she put the color on, instead of asking me to turn my head or gently move my head in the position she wanted it, she would grab my head and harshly turn it or push it down, all with the scowl on her face. I was actually scared. I would have gotten up and left, but my hair was already full of foils. After I got the dye washed off, I told her I didn't want a cut and got out of there as soon as possible. The highlights look awful. On the right side of my head, there's a huge skunk stripe. I'm so disappointed. And, my overall experience was just scary. I don't think this stylist has the right disposition for her job. I found her attitude questionable before (but I get that not everyone is all bubbly and smiles), but this last time was just appalling. I won't be back.
I loved Kim, she was great! She gave me the best relaxer of my life! I recommend her to anyone of ethnic background.
I went to Ardan for the first time today to have my hair cut. Everyone in the building was extremely nice and my stylist did an amazing job on my hair. Thanks Adrienne
Dear Honestholly - We do stand by our work and take any problems/complaints very seriously if we know about it. We are a bit confused regarding your review. You stated that you came in for "a few highlights" and yet bleach was placed on your scalp. This is not the practice for highlights. Highlights are done in foils, caps or papers and do not reach the scalp. In addition, we use the Blazing Highlighting System from Scruples which is an oil lightener and not a bleach. Lindsey and I take complaints very seriously and we were never contacted by you. Nevertheless your dissatisfaction has not fallen on deaf ears. Please contact either me or Lindsey at the Salon and we will be happy to discuss a refund. Sincerely, Laura Donaven
