Yoly'z Hair Salon
Reviews
It's honestly hard to believe these reviews. I have been a client of Yoly'z (Dee) since last year 2014 and they have ALWAYS provided EXCEPTIONAL CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! I relocated to Detroit for my job at the end of the year, but when I go back to Atlanta (Smyrna/Vinings) making an appointment is hassel-free and your appointment time is YOUR appointment time. As soon as you walk in they greet you with a SMILE and often welcome you by name. Everyone there is so nice, welcoming, keeps your laughing and always offers water, coffee, tea, snacks, etc. Even if I walk in with a drink they still offer me a beverage or snack. In response to the hair dryer comment... Some clients hair types/textures aren't necessarily a blow out with a blow dryer type hair, they NEED the dryer. The reason I know, is because I use to go to other salons claiming to be "upscale" and the amount of heat and tension they use with the blow dryer and brush damaged my hair. I moved to Atlanta with a head full of hair to my bra line and when I went to Yolyz my hair barely touched my shoulders because my hair was damaged and breaking from the amount of heat/tension used. I realize now that healthy hair requires more than a 15-30 minute blow dry and flat iron. Dee has had my hair growing very quickly maybe just after a month or two. My husband even LOVES my hair and notice how healthy it had become. If I say I want to find a salon in Detroit, he responds, you cant make it to Dee (at Yolyz)... LOL! So I say all this to say, Let the PROFESSIONALS do their job, please.
I had a great experience! Its hard to find a stylist/salon that does blondes well. I recently moved to Atlanta and had been trialing another salon which just couldn't get my color right (I gave them 2 tries). I came across Yoly'z and loved the results! Dee was really knowledgeable and did a fantastic job. I have since referred my 2 sisters who were out visiting from Australia (one with Brown hair and one with blonde hair) and they too had a great experience. I also get 30% off my next visit for referring them which brings the cost down to an unbeatable price. Overall really impressed and relieved to have found a stylist that knows how to color blondes right!
Avoid Yoly'z at all costs. The first haircut, Yoly was attentive and did a decent job for the 40ish bucks she charged (30% discount first visit). The second haircut was a nightmare. First, I sat in the lobby for 30 minutes even though I arrived 10 minutes early for my appointment. Second, I was abandoned at the hair washing station with conditioner sitting in my hair for another 30 minutes. After developing a cramp in my neck, Yoly's assistant finally returned and barely sprayed any water on my head leaving most of the conditioner in. I sighed and went along because I didn't have all night to spend at the salon and I could just go home and wash my hair immediately afterwards. But now the true horror story starts. Yoly spent more time running around during the 30 minutes I sat in her chair than she actually did cutting it. After 20 minutes in her chair, she told me she was done despite the left side of my hair being nearly an inch longer than the right. It took at least 5 minutes of me telling her I need more off the left, because it looked VERY uneven. I also asked her to cut my bangs a tad shorter than last time and she obliged but due to the conditioner left in my hair, my bangs were greasy and plastered to my forehead. Yoly got very huffy when I asked for the left side of my hair to be evened out. My bangs didn't look all that great, but I felt bad that I had to keep asking her to trim my length so it was even. I figured I could just style my bangs to offset the weird way they looked all greasy and stringy and they'd be fine. Imagine my horror the next morning when I dried my bangs without them full of greasy conditioner. My bangs were cut unevenly in a jagged line across my forehead. I even had a section of bangs that Yoly had swept to the side instead of cutting them. A half inch section of my hair hung over my right eye and my nose that was 3/4 of an inch longer then the rest of my bangs!! I had to arrange my awful bangs as best I could with hairspray as I had a 7 am meeting with several other attorneys for a deposition. My hair looked embarrassing but I figured I could swing by Yoly'z that same day and hopefully get my bangs cleaned up before Christmas and they would have some time to grow out. The receptionist told me I could come in at any time so I immediately went to the salon after getting off the phone. Yoly came to the lobby after I sat there for 20 minutes. I showed her my bangs and expressed my embarrassment over the jaggedness. She said "Don't you dare be disrespectful to me, you were so difficult and you asked for those bangs." Never in my life have I been so disrespected after paying $65 and a $15 tip. I told Yoly I'd be going to a different salon and walked out without saying another word. Clearly customer satisfaction and customer service don't matter at Yoly'z. The first haircut is great to bring you back, but after that you are no longer a valued customer. The haircut I received is no better than a Great Clips or similar cut rate salon. I will never return to Yoly'z and hope you don't make the same mistake I did in going there in the first place. Avoid at all costs.
I guess it's about time I write a review for Yoly'z Salon...I've only been a loyal client since this location opened in 2011, and I've been going to the owner "Yoly" since at least 2007! I have been thrilled with how she has listened to exactly what I'm trying to achieve with my blonde hair, or she has fresh ideas when I'm not sure which way to go. She's done a beautiful brighter blonde for my summers, and a gorgeous dimensional blonde in the fall/winter time. I've loved the ombre effect she did for me last year, and she's transformed my long hair into the most flattering shoulder-length look with layers, and then made the transformation back to long a breeze. I've noticed that as my hair grows out it's the most natural look I've ever seen and that's a really big deal to me...she seriously has to be a color goddess. And they just started a program where any referrals you send gives you 40% OFF your next service...that's HUGE! I've only had the best experience there, as the rest of her assistants and even other stylists make sure I am totally comfortable at every step a "color-processed person" requires. The salon is also so classy and beautiful, I look forward to going, not just for my cut & color, but for having some tranquil time...I can jump on their Wifi, and grab a snack & drink. And I can't forget to mention the aromatherapy-massage-shampoo thing they do there, it's just the cherry on top of everything else. And if Amanda does it, then 2 cherries!
Not customer focused, rude and disrespectful! While I was getting my hair cut (second visit there) I asked the owner/stylist what type of scissors she was using and the result that they give vs. a normal scissor. She said that they give a textured and feathered look. I told her that I'd prefer a look that wasn't feathered and I preferred heavier looking layers. She got very offensive and said that she had to be able to do what she wanted to do as a stylist. The conversation escalated and she stopped in the middle of the haircut and asked me to leave. She was very unprofessional and disrespectful. If customer service and pleasing her customer was upmost in her mind she could have chosen to work with me on how the style should be and perhaps changed scissors to give the look I said I'd prefer. This was one of the worst experiences that I've ever had. I walked out without a complete haircut and obviously with a wet head.
