Massage Envy Spa Summerville

Take it from a former employee, the only thing that matters is how many memberships they can sell. If you don't believe me, ask them the price of a massage if you don't sign up. The ladies at the front desk may seem like pushy sales people but that's only because they have to because their hours are based on sales. When you miss a payment they call you every week until you pay and if you don't schedule an appointment in a while (a month) they call to get you to come in. Too many times I've seen people sign up and don't have time to come in so they pile up a whole bunch of prepaid massages that they have trouble using, and if you cancel your membership you loose any massages that you can't use in 30 days. Not to mention you're locked in for a year whether you can come in or not. I started working here in March of 2014 and the clinic had 2050 active members and when I left in November they had about 1900 active members. Though there are people who enjoy their monthly memberships (because they can afford it and they have time) there are others who can't and don't enjoy it. Everyday someone comes in to cancel or calls to find out how to cancel, every day and this is no exaggeration. I was let go from because my performance went down hill after a traffic accident that left me with no vehicle, and because of excessive tardies. They did give me a week off to "get myself together" but we all know that dealing with insurance companies takes longer than a week. What angers me the most is the fact that the manager who made the schedule was made aware In August that on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursday's I did not get out of class until 4:20 pm and I was getting scheduled to work at 4:30 of course I cant control traffic so some days I would be late and the issue concerning my tardies wasn't brought to my attention until after the accident and at the end of the semester when I no longer had class and I would no longer be late. Also, this same manager was criticize by the front desk staff in an employee meeting for her performance and how she was never there for her staff when they needed her. They were angry that she would leave early when it rained really bad because her dog was scared of thunderstorms. Upset because she never worked past 7pm (unless the owner was there), on most Sundays she would come in 1-3 hours after her scheduled time and to top it off all we all had to help her do things that she should know how to do as the lead manager. I'm disgruntled because I was let go due to issues I had no control over yet this same manager is still free to sit in "her office" and only pop out when needed and asked for. The other managers, massage therapist and front desk staff all feel the same way yet they don't voice their concerns, they feel as though she doesn't know what she's doing and it's been proven because on several occasions other people have had to fix her mistakes. In sum, this place is full of unhappy workers because of the pressure to sell and constant unfairness. The massage therapists are great, they may be unhappy sometimes because they aren't fully booked and they only get paid for when they are booked but they all give wonderful massages. If you're looking for a great massage this is the place for you but do not commit to a membership, it's not worth it! If you need anything ask for Michelle, Imani, Jess or Jenny these ladies really care about your over all well being and if they are trying to sell you a membership it's because they recognize that you need it and it's not just to push sales!!
I have a warning for new clients of this SPA. Last year my wife and I visited and they offered my wife a free massage if I would start a membership. The young lady offered all the information EXCEPT the fine print which is YOU SIGN A ONE YEAR CONTRACT!!!! I am not a big fan of massages so I didn't go very often and I have a busy schedule plus live 45 miles from Summerville. About 4-6 months after the "DEAL" I called requesting to cancel my contract. Oh no I was told there is a 12 month minimum????? Also there was a requirement to have the monthly fee deducted from your bank account. I was aware of that at the beginning, but not the 12 month minimum contract About three weeks ago a young lady from Message Envy called and said I had 6 massages paid for and I needed to use them. I told her I wanted to go ahead and cancel my membership at that moment. "You must come in and sign the paperwork and do it"OF COURSE IT TAKES 30 DAYS TO STOP THE MEMBERSHIP- Ok one more month of payment deducted. I finally managed to go in today and cancel my membership. "You have 30 days to use the 6 massages you have paid for" WHAT!!!!!!!!!!! I couldn't get in in 6 months to use them how am I going to use 6 in 30 days- A REAL RIP OFF!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now the quality of massages was very good, the masseuse were all very friendly and professional no complaints there- BUT BUYER BEWARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ASK ABOUT THE FINE PRINT!!!!!!!!
Did not enjoy my experience. Heavy sales pitch. Felt like a gym membership or a timeshare situation. Not relaxing. Amateur massage. Not worth the $39 "Introductory Price". Next time I will save my money until I can afford someplace like Sandalwoods in Summerville or Island Massage in Goose Creek.
