Massages! I love them! When SpaWeek arrived I was thrilled ($50 = a steal), my friend and I both made appointments at ZaSpa because we had heard such great things. When we walked in and changed into the robes, I have to say I was looking forward to the massage. The robe is by far the softest most AWESOME-est robe ever. True story. I got taken back to the room where I would get my massage. This is where things turn south. You definitely need oil/lotion something to help reduce the friction when getting a massage. HOWEVER, I do not want to feel like I'm about to be deep-fried! There was an overwhelming amount of oil poured on me and absolutely no friction for a bit. Repeat this for both arms and legs. When I was face up, the therapist reached his arms under my back. I'm use to this, what I wasn't use to was the close proximity of our faces, I could feel and smell his breath on my face...which let's be honest -- is a little awkward and just weird. I did peek real quick only to realize his face was about 3 inches away from mine. The one redeeming quality is that I asked for firm pressure to get some of my knots out, and he delivered. My upper back was sore for almost 2 days. At the end I was given hot towels (good lord did I need them) to wipe off the excess oil. I have to say next year for SpaWeek, I'll probably most likely choose a different spa.
I was gifted a gift card to partake in their spa services and let me just say that they are pricey. I arrived at my appointment about thirty minutes early so I decided I would use this time to read the reviews on Za Spa. After reading all of them I almost wanted to cancel my appointment but I remembered they had my card on hold so yea definitely didn't cancel. lol. I decided to get the Za experience for myself and see if it met my approval. The Spa is located on the 2nd floor to the left of the elevators. When I entered the lady at the desk was checking out another lady. I did feel that it took her a moment to say hello but I'm no stickler for immediate hellos as long as one is said and she did greet me after she wrapped up with the lady. She led me to the waiting room that is on the opposite side of the nail salon. I only had to wait about five minutes after my appointment time which isn't bad at all. Once it was my turn my sweet nail tech came over to introduce herself and she led me to where I would be getting my manicure and pedicure. I was the only one in there which was perfect. My only complaint is that it was a bit nippy in there then again I am always cold so maybe that's my problem and not theirs. The nail tech was very sweet and informative about everything she was going to do and what she was going to use. She was very knowledgeable about feet. Yes I was asking all kinds of questions. She didn't even mind that she had to do extra work to remove the shellac which I had no idea was such a pain to remove. Not painful as in hurt but painful as in an extra charge for removal. I was able to get some reading done while I was there which was great. She was respectful of the fact that I wasn't very talkative and allowed me to read. I love that the chair reclines to the back so as she is working on your feet you literally get to kick back and relax. Oh there is an automatic 20% gratuity charge already added to your bill.
The location convenience as well as the overall experience ensures that I will return and recommend to others. Well done!
Although I did not use the Spa proper, I did use the Fitness Centre which I thought was in excellent working order, had appropriate equipment and was neat and tidy.
AVOID THIS SPA like the plague!!! At the moment I could not even begin to give the ZaSpa a rating. I arrived early so I could use the steam room which I asked about when booking my appt. Another woman waited in the reception area and seemed perplexed as it was after her appt time and she had been unable to find anyone to check in with. We waited for another 5 to 10 minutes after calling the main hotel number for them to find someone and send them to us to get us checked in. From there it only got worse. I was told the steam room was not working today although from reading previous reviews of this place, it looks like it hasn't been working for some time now. Apparently I was supposed to have asked if they had a steam room AND if the steam room was working. After they came to get me to begin, she showed me to my bath and said she would be back to get me. I asked her about the treatment as I was supposed to have been scrubbed and exfoliated with a special loofah, then allowed to select an aromatherapy for a nice hot bath to be followed by a massage. She said no...this is the bath you are signed up for. I was a bit puzzled but thought maybe they do the exfoliation afterwards but what about the aromatherapy for the bath water?? I got into the bath and found the water was lukewarm at best and the air in the room was cold so I was just barely warm enough in the bath. I took my bath, whirlpool on, and waited since she said she would come back to get me. She never came back. The whirlpool which was on a timer set for only 8 minutes had clicked off automatically. The water was still and cold by now, I waited as long as I could and still she didn't come back to get me. I finally got out, dressed and waited in the reception area again and finally someone came by and I asked about my massage which was supposed to be next. This woman said she didn't know and walked off. The receptionist then came by asking if I enjoyed my bath and said I had another hour before my next spa treatment - my nails. I asked her about my massage I was supposed to have and she said Oh, no, you weren't signed up for that. We went back to the reception desk and determined that I was signed up for exactly what I had asked for but there had been a mistake in booking the correct people for the treatment I wanted but she also said...we don't have that specific treatment anymore even though they booked me for it. What??? I asked if anyone was there that could at least give me my massage if nothing else, but she said they didn't have anyone there to do that today!?! (even though this was again what I distinctly signed up for). My choice now was to wait another hour just to get my nails done. By the way, they charged me $175 for the treatment I had booked for and described above so I guess by her saying they don't have that spa treatment anymore then they were trying to charge me $175 for JUST a bath!!! I was already cold and confused and had enough. None of this made sense. I asked for a refund since they charged my card already. She called the spa manager instead and spoke with him and then hung the phone up telling me that the spa manager told her that he would call me the next day!!!! The next day?!? Wow! Superior customer service, hey? HA!! I asked to see him and she said that he wasn't in today. To be continued I guess and hopefully they will refund my money!! Wow! I was so stunned I didn't know what to say! Needless to say, I left the spa without getting my nails done because I didn't want to wait another hour! I had already been there for 1 1/2 hours and all that happened was a 10 minute lukewarm bath. The worst part was that this was my birthday and I wanted to spend a relaxing day at the spa and have a nice dinner in the evening. Well, at least the dinner will still happen. Sad, sad place. I have been here before and the services were excellent. I am not sure what has happened but do not step one foot into this Spa as you will regret it!!!
