Escape Salon Aveda
Reviews
Thanksgiving Day weekend First, I want to thank the reviewer for her warning regarding the non-stop-talker and the "selfish-smoker". I will try and avoid her. I rated my experience five stars although I haven't yet had my haircut at the Escape Salon Aveda in Boston. I have, however, been to the store and I LOVE Aveda's hair products. P.S. I'll learn if "Chuck" still works there. If not, I'll ask that another male stylist cuts my hair. My future haircut is too important to me to leave to chance.
i NEVER write negative reviews but my "experience" at the Escape (how ironic) Salon was so atrocious, that I MUST vent. First let me say that I have no qualms about paying for an experience. I recently moved from Miami to Boston and was looking forward to an after work spa-like treatment. I figured an Aveda salon would give me just that. I arrived 5 minutes before my appointment yet ended up waiting about 20 before i was in the chair. While the "stylist" was not a bad person, she was (unfortunately for me) the most clueless and un-professional hairdresser i have EVER encountered. The experience was anything BUT relaxing and enjoyable. She talked and talked and talked incessantly AT me thru the entire process of applying my hair-color (seriously, she WOULD'T stop). She then got into a discussion with the manager(?) in front of me about how she "needs a lunch break and she can't just work the whole day thru" but she "cares so much about her clients" that she can't say no to an appointment. Let's be real here girl, you PURPOSEFULLY double (and probably triple) book appointments so you can make more money. GREAT for you; TERRIBLE for your clients. After she applied my color, she had another client (which had also been waiting on her). I thought to myself "THANK GOD! i can finally have some peace!" but it was not to be... she started TALK, TALK, TALKING away loudly to that client as well. Meanwhile, the only thing I had been offered was water or tea... not sure if it's a Miami thing, but ALL salons there offer champagne and/or wine to assist in the relaxation. Definitely would have helped take the edge of the sad, sad time i was having. As i sat in the chair with the dye in my hair for what seemed like FOREVER, she finished with her other client, then without a word disappeared. I sat and sat and sat. I was so visibly annoyed and insulted that some of the other stylists asked me if I was ok and commented that I had been there for a very LONG time. At this point, i was literally anxiety ridden that my hair would fall out from the chemicals. Thankfully one of the other stylists (mine was STILL M.I.A.) explained that the color deactivates itself but she would be happy to wash it out if necessary. I thanked her for her offer and decided to continue to wait for my original stylist to return. When she finally did, she REEKED of cigarettes. Now let me be clear, i myself am a smoker but it is BEYOND inappropriate to leave a client sitting around for an hour while you go get your fix. i was SO fed up at that point that i just wanted to get out of there as fast as possible. The hair wash was mediocre, the blowout was (i must admit) pretty good but overall, this chick needs to GET IT TOGETHER. You know who you are and I hope you learn from this review and take it as constructive criticism. I left her a 15% tip because i have manners but she absolutely DID NOT deserve it. Here are some more tips: As a stylist, it is YOUR responsibility to provide an experience for your client. Learn to take social cues, STOP TALKING SO MUCH and listen (we are PAYING you after all), and DON'T waste MY TIME to take a break, and maybe sit thru a marathon of Tabatha's Salon Takeover. LORD KNOWS YOU NEED IT.
I have gone to Chuck for years, and it's sad to say I've finally gotten around to writing a review. Better late than never, right? Chuck is the color guru! I have referred many friends and I stand proud behind my referral! He listens to what his clients want/need, gets a feel for who they are what they do for a living and adds his expertise. The outcome? Nothing short of perfection! I feel like a new woman when I step out of the spa. I've gotten to a point where I sit in his chair and tell him to do whatever he wants and I never walk out disappointed! If you're new to the city, or need a new hairstylist for whatever reason; Chuck is the answer to your hair prayers!! I could go on forever, but I think you catch my drift......
I got the best haircut here of my life, and it has been a consistent experience since. I've tried a lot of salons in Boston, but Kerri at Escape is by far the best technician I have ever experienced.
